Are You Enjoying Life To The Fullest?

“Seize the moment. Remember all those women on the 'Titanic' who waved off the dessert cart.” ~ Erma Bombeck

In our hustle bustle world, we seldom take time to savor life’s joys. We know we should, and we make frequent pledges to do so, but opposing forces of self-denial compete for space in our heads. Often, self-denial, hiding under the catch all umbrella of self-discipline, wins.

While living a balanced life and being disciplined have their valued place in our world, the lost art of enjoying life seems just that, lost. Taking time to appreciate great food, wine, art, theater and literature seem to be luxuries we rarely allow ourselves.

But in truth, life is to be enjoyed and lived to the fullest. Our world is vast and varied, but accessible now more than ever. Through the information superhighway we are all connected. We can begin by acknowledging our common humanity and develop a true appreciation for our respective talents and cultures.

We would all be wise to ask ourselves what enjoying life really means to us, and when are we going to start acting on it. When was the last time we shared a long leisurely meal with friends and family, experimenting with cuisine and trying new things? When did we last light a candle, open that bottle of wine and unwrap that box of chocolates? When are we going to take that trip, see that concert or buy that painting we can’t stop thinking about?

Instead of denying ourselves, let’s affirm our passions and feed our curiosity. Let’s start enjoying life to the fullest, whatever that means to us.
